Both Neon and Cardinal Tetras are native to South America, specifically the Amazon River basin. They are generally collected from the wild and sold as aquarium fish, although most of the ones available in pet stores today are bred in captivity. Fish bred in captivity tend to be more adaptable to different water parameters than their wild counterparts, making them a bit easier to care for.
Both species are schooling fish, so they feel more secure and happy when kept in groups of six or more. They are peaceful and hardy fish, making them excellent additions to a community aquarium. Their vibrant colours and lively personalities can really liven up a tank!
